New Delhi, Nov 25: Rohit Sharma, who led India to the T20 World Cup title in 2024, has been appointed the tournament ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, to be hosted jointly by India and Sri Lanka.
One of India’s most accomplished T20I cricketers, Rohit finished his career in the format with 4,231 runs at an average of 32.01 and a strike-rate of 140.89. He remains among the few players to have won two Men’s T20 World Cups — first in the historic 2007 edition, and later in India’s triumphant 2024 campaign.

Rohit’s T20 journey began in 2007 with a memorable debut campaign where he scored 88 runs without being dismissed, including a gritty 50* against South Africa and a crucial unbeaten 30 in the final against Pakistan.
The 2024 World Cup was even more defining, with Rohit leading from the front as captain. He ended as India’s highest run-scorer with 257 runs at a strike-rate of 156.70. His explosive starts laid the foundation for India’s dominance, with standout knocks of 92 off 41 balls against Australia and 57 off 39 in the semi-final versus England. The title ended India’s 11-year ICC trophy drought, after which Rohit retired from T20Is.
Expressing his excitement over the new role, Rohit said, “It is great to have the tournament back in India and for me to be associated once again with the tournament, this time in a new capacity as the Brand Ambassador. I wish all the players the very best and hope they enjoy India’s hospitality and take home wonderful memories.”
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will be held from February 7 to March 8, 2026.
