Lucknow, Nov 29: Tanvi Sharma continued her impressive run at the Syed Modi India International 2025, cruising past Taiwan’s Sin Yan Happy Lo 21-13, 21-19 to reach the semifinals and keep her maiden World Tour title hopes alive. The 16-year-old will face Japan’s Hina Akechi, who stunned top-seeded Shuo Hun Sung of Taiwan 21-8, 21-15 in another quarterfinal.
Tanvi, despite being shorter than her opponent, relied on tactical play and precise placements to make up for the lack of smashing power. After a quick first game, she faced a tough second as Lo raced to an 18-13 lead, but Tanvi reeled off five consecutive points to seal the match.

Joining her in the women’s semifinals is Unnati Hooda, who defeated Rakshitha Ramraj 21-15, 13-21, 21-16, keeping alive the possibility of an all-India final. Hooda will meet Turkey’s Neslihan Arin, who overcame Isharani Baruah 21-19, 13-21, 21-15.
The men’s draw saw shocking upsets, with top seed and World No. 19 Jia Heng Jason Teh of Singapore losing 21-19, 12-21, 22-20 to Japan’s Minoru Koga, ranked 119 in the world and a former Junior World Championships medallist. Koga will now face Jason Gunawan of Hong Kong for a place in the final.
K. Srikanth booked his semifinal spot after Priyanshu Rajawat retired while trailing in the second game, hampered by a twisted ankle and a blister on his thumb. Mithun Manjunath also reached the last four, defeating Manraj Singh 21-18, 21-13 for his first World Tour semifinal since 2022. Srikanth will face Manjunath in a much-anticipated semifinal clash.
