Dubai, Feb 19 : 'Udentichem Neketr' under the leadership of young and dynamic Ullas Fernandes, celebrated its seventh anniversary in a grand style at the English Speaking School, Jumairah on Friday, February 17.

The association, also called as Moodbidri Varado Catholic Asscociation (MVCA), comprising 13 parishes from Moodbidri Varado, marked the anniversary with a variety of events throughout the day.

The event started at 12.30 pm with a devotional welcome dance by children. Walter Nandalike of Daijiworld was the chief guest and veteran Konkani singer from Mumbai Lawrence Saldanha was the guest of honour. President Ullas Fernandes welcomed the gathering. The lamp lighting ceremony was led by the guests, followed by the representatives of 13 parishes of the varado.

"Thirteen parishes coming under one umbrella is in itself an achievement. The Mangalore diocese has just completed 125 glorious years in the service of the faithful, and the contribution of Moodbidri varado through these 13 parishes is significant. The same spirit is spread here in the UAE too," said Walter Nandalike in his address. He praised the talents of MVCA, specially the drama artistes, singers, players and others.

Skits and dances were presented in the morning by the members of the association. Alwyn Pinto and troupe staged hilarious skits, and Feat Beat and Show Stoppers dance troupes presented spectacular performance. Antony Mascarenhas of Puttur, who performs magic as a hobby, entertained the children and the audience with his magic skills.

Lancy Norononha's audio album 'Moga Sagor' was released during the event by James Mendonca. Walter Nandalike, Dayan D'Souza, Shyna Noronha along with Lancy were present on the dais.Joseph Mathias, who has also rendered his voice to the album, compered the audio release ceremony. Both Lancy and Joseph presented a beautiful song from the album 'Moga Sagor' on the occasion.

Konkani Play by Ashuntha Pereira:

'Konkachem Aikonche', a Konkani play written, directed and performed by young Konkani playwright Ashuntha Pereira entertained the audience. The comedy play was highly appreciated by the theatre enthusiasts. The play was enacted by Praveen Sequeira, Joshua D'Souza, Melvyn Cardoza, Richard Saldanha, Lawrence Cardoza, Helvyn and Ashuntha Pereira herself.

The entire event was ably compered by Melwyn Vaz, well-known in community leader, one of the founder members of Catholic Fujairah Association, and vice-principal of a school in Fujairah.

Thank you so much MVCA for giving me a chance to perform this drama with my team. Special thanks to Deepak for his beautiful photography. Joshwa, I must say that, I am lucky to have very good actors in my team like you, Praveen, Helvin, Melwin, Richard and Lawrence. Without this team it was impossible to stage this drama successfully. A Big thank you for our people for staying with us till the end and for showering beautiful complements. Hope to contribute more to our community.

It was a very nice program organized by MVCA. Food was nice.

Drama was too good with beautiful story/theme line. It’s was not too long like other Konkani dramas! All were professional actors. Shenoy Maam (Joshwa) and Reeya (Asunta) were too good. I loved their acting. I hope this team gets more chance to stage this drama. We have only one FEMALE drama writer and director in our community if I am not wrong! We should encourage her more. I think she should get better felicitation from MVCA rather than just a bunch of flowers! It's not enough for her talents and efforts! Asunta we are very proud about you. Keep it up.
Hall was too hot. A.C. wasn’t on. Toilets were too dirty! Organizers need to give more importance to these issues!
