More Sandstorms Forecast for UAE with Temperatures Set to Dip

Dubai, Feb 19 (WAM): Dusty conditions are to continue in the UAE until Monday, according to the weather bureau.

The National Centre for Meteorolgy and Seismology (NCMS) also expects the temperature to decrease gradually over the western areas.

However, most parts will remain cloudy and seas will continue to remain rough.

Motorists are also advised to drive carefully as horizontal visibility is reduced.

Sea levels rise; water flows on to roads

Meanwhile, strong winds kicked up a storm in the Kalba’a area of the emirate of Sharjah on Saturday night, sending sea-levels dangerously high, with water overflowing on to roads in some areas.

In the Suhaila area and near the Corniche Park of Kalba’a huge waves caused the sea water to exceed the breakwater and flow on to the streets.

The road leading to the emirate of Fujairah was also affected.

Al Anjad patrols of Kalba’a police station in cooperation with Kalba’a Municipality ensured the water was drained and regulated traffic to ensure there were no mishaps.

Beachgoers were prevented from approaching the corniche area.

Ahmed Juma Al-horh Director of Kalba’a Muanicipality was quoted in the Arabic press as saying, “The waves were high which led to the overflow of water outside the breakwater on to the corniche.

“The Corniche Park was flooded with water up to the main street in the city.”

Meanwhile, the weather forecast till today morning continues to remain bleak – with the sandstorm that obliterated the weekend for many continuing to blow over Dubai and the rest of the UAE.

According to the National Centre of Meterology and Seismoloy (NCMS), fresh southerly winds will continue affecting most areas, especially internal areas, causing blowing dust/sand, and reducing the horizontal visibility.

The NCMS’ 24-hour forecast from 9am Saturday till 9am Sunday, also put out a warning of rough seas, with waves between four and six feet high.

The northern and eastern areas of the UAE were given a chance of rain with weather, in general, forecast to be hazy and partly cloudy in general.

The National Center of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) advises motorists to take precaution on roads as a reduced horizontal visibility is expected. Also those suffering from asthma are urged not to venture out.
