Dubai, Dec 6: The United Arab Emirates has launched a new unified smart service allowing Emirati citizens to renew their passports and Emirates ID cards together in a single streamlined process. Introduced under the national “Zero Bureaucracy” initiative, the system aims to simplify procedures, reduce processing time and eliminate administrative hurdles for the public.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has enabled this integrated renewal option through the UAEICP smart application. Until now, citizens were required to complete separate applications for each document, along with multiple submissions and payments. With the new upgrade, all required steps have been combined into one seamless digital process. Eligible users whose passports have expired and whose Emirates ID cards are due to expire within six months will find both renewal options together on one screen. The application also allows updating personal information and photographs without repeated data entry.

Officials stated that the upgraded service was introduced after citizens expressed concerns during the Zero Bureaucracy Expo about handling different document expiry dates, which often led to confusion. By synchronizing renewals, the government aims to make identity document management more convenient for individuals and families.
The unified platform is expected to reduce renewal time by at least 50 percent and significantly lower customer service inquiries. It also strengthens the UAE’s goal of delivering fast, proactive and fully digital public services with minimal effort required from users. Centralizing the management of essential documents marks a major step forward in enhancing the overall quality and efficiency of government processes.
This development forms part of the second phase of the Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme launched in June by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The initiative seeks to eliminate unnecessary procedures, adopting innovative and citizen-focused digital solutions that position the UAE as a global leader in modern governance.
