Kuwait, Dec 6: The Konkani-speaking Catholics from both Goa and Mangaluru gathered at Our Lady of Arabia Church in Ahmadi, Kuwait, to celebrate the feast of St Francis Xavier on December 5. This historic church, located in the vicinity of the Kuwait Oil Company on the outskirts of the city, is soon to be publicly proclaimed as a Minor Basilica.
Highlights of celebration
The festivities commenced with a tableau performed by children, and adults which provided a wonderful insight into the life and mission of St Francis Xavier. This engaging presentation set a reflective tone for the day's events.
The holy Mass was presided over by Fr Orfin Menezes, a guest priest from Goa, and co-celebrated by Fr (Dr) Antony Lopez, OFM Cap, chancellor & judicial vicar, along with Fr Avil Manoj Rosario and Fr Darel Fernandes, who are currently serving in Kuwait.
Homily reflection
Fr Orfin’s homily centered around the core message to “Live and proclaim the Gospel wherever you go.” He elaborated on the multifaceted life of St Francis Xavier, who exemplified true Christian values not just through preaching, but also by:
• Caring for the sick
• Educating children
• Defending the poor
• Comforting the dying
Through these actions, St Francis Xavier demonstrated that faith without action is empty, and that true Christianity is reflected in how we serve others.
