Mangalore: Rape of Minor Girl - Former Mayor Ashraf Questioned, Supporters Angry

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Feb 20: Former city mayor Ashraf was questioned by the Bunder police here on the night of Sunday February 19 in connection with the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl by two men at Kandathpally in the city. The accused, Waheed and Mubarak, who are accused of raping her repeatedly since last year, are absconding.

A large crowd gathered in front of Bunder police station, as followers of Ashraf were concerned about the fact that the leader was brought to the police station in a jeep. They stayed in front of the police station and protested against the arrest of their leader till late night.

Ashraf

City commissioner, Seemant Kumar Singh, also visited the police station. MLAs, Abhaychandra Jain, and U T Khader, and some other Congress leaders visited the police and succeeded in convincing the policemen to release Ashraf. The protestors continued to stay in front of the police station even after Ashraf was released. Police inspector, Vinay Ganonkar and other personnel had a hard time controlling the mob.

The fact that a minor girl was being repeatedly raped by the two youth by threatening her of dire consequences, had come into the open on Saturday, after the girl, who could take it no more, revealed about her travails to her neighbour. The girl was admitted into the hospital, where a medical examination was conducted. It is learnt that the girl will be subjected to another medical examination.

Ashraf said that assistant commissioner of police Raveendra Gadadi came to his home when ‘Mouleed’ programme was in progress, and questioned him about the whereabouts of Waheed. “When I expressed ignorance, he asked me to get into the jeep. I was forced to visit the police station. I would have extended cooperation if I was requested to come to the police station over phone. I am a respectable people’s representative, and I feel there was no need to force me,” he stated thereafter.

ACP Raveendra Gadadi should not have taken Ashraf from the middle of a prayer meeting where many people have gathered to perform Religious-Moulood. This must have angered the people attending the prayer meeting. The protesters have gathered in front of police station neither to support Ashraf nor the rape incident but for the taught less act of the ACP that had hurt their religious sentiment.

Mr.Kiran,USA...You are not from Mangalore..Good..Let me tell you about your USA..13years old boy takes gun and shoots his classmates and teacher sometimes even his parents..That happens only in USA. Before 15,almost all boys and girls experience sex..that happens only in USA. Before 15,they know what is heroine or coccaine ? It happens only in USA..To point out someone is very easy..but you should remember that if you point one finger towards someone,4 fingers will point towards you.
Anyway, subject is former Mayor who has not good report card, already he was questioed before in someother cases. It is not a very surprise news. But I agree with Ashraf's comments that if police had asked him to come over phone, then he would have gone.Police did it in their own natural style.

I am not taking any sides here, but only making an observation. Just one question to Lathika Rao : Did you pose the same question to Yeddy when Yeddy was ordered to be arrested and the royal treatment of the cops towards him then? So what if he is the ex CM. Please remember that all are equal before law, You, I, Yeddy or Ashraf. The guy was not running away from the law, nor feigning chest pain like Yeddy. He says the cops could have just called him over phone to the police station and he would have come on his own.

Therefore was there any need to man handle him? Remember he is not an accused until now and was only required for questioning as a witness. Therefore why this kind of rough treatment?. Yes, tomorrow if it is proved that he has had a role in the rape of the poor girl, then he should and will face the full face of the law. Until then let us not call him a goon, rapist etc etc.

NO need to be big issue of this matter, he is only telling that "When I expressed ignorance, he asked me to get into the jeep", if he had co operated nicely, they should not have taken him to station. And with out any information police would not have questioned him, that's for sure.

Finally we have the cops working hard towards providing justice to the little one and her family. This is to everyone who thinks that that police are jobless. Guys JUST LET THEM DO THEIR JOB. If you cant support them then atleast dont criticise them. I wonder WHY do people want to interfere when they're working. If they have arrested someone then there should be some reason behind it. And from where did the question of Minority come. Its all about a innocent girl. Its all about the her tears and the trauma. Its sad to know that there are people who trying to turn this into politics. This can happen with anyone. So think about what next than calling it some kind of a drama. No political party would safeguard your daughters, sisters or or any lady for that matter. Its you and me and we all togerther..I am glad that I support no political party as such and even If I would have supported I dont think I would turned this issue into some kind of a polictical drama.. Thank you daijiworld and request you follow up and keep us updated .

    Dear Lathika Rao,
This statement of yours caries lot of authority. Though I do not know Ashraf, the ex Mayor in person, I don’t think any of us have any authority to say or assume that the boys/men in question have anything to do with Ashraf. Why arrest Ashraf ? Why not Anthony or Prakash, who might know these absconders? Perhaps, you will be in a right position to trace these goons and hand over to the Police instead of posting such comments and creating bad effects on mindset of people around. Please spread peace not hatred. Thank you.

My question is why he expressed his ignorance? Also stating that, he would have co-operated if police he was requested by police to come to the station over phone.
If he go to the police station, then only he will open his mouth? Wow! superb!!

Mr. Ashraf, instead of opposing police action and using influence of influential people to come out of police clutches, please use your postion as ex mayor and use inflence of those influential people who supported you to trace the absconding accused people. Apeal to those who are protesting in front of police station, to search hook and corner to trace the accused who are hiding. (I know you and none of your people would do that)!!!

Law should be applied in its equality to all irrespective of their faith, creed, affiliation and ideology. I feel the police must have some clues as regards ex mayors clout in the minor girls rape case, they have taken him to the station for question and if its true there is nothing wron and the protest is uncalled for. But if the police are acting at the behest of communual forces, then the end rsults shall be negative and shall devide the society further. All minorities should be treated with respect and must be brought into national mainstream. If we treat them as third class citizens, India shall pay a costly price in the name of peace and it will only end in bloodshed and alienation. Let the educated and wise people of our state decide which path they want to go..... Mangalore is more communual than ever these days... I feel ashamed to call myself a mangalorean....

I dont see any reason Mr. Philip J Rodrigues, Mangalore reacting. Why if he is a Ex-mayor, the rule in Indian constitution changes. “When I expressed ignorance, he asked me to get into the jeep" this is what Ashraf's statement, then what is the mistake of assistant commissioner of police Raveendra Gadadi. Ashraf says, if he was called over the phone, he would have cooperated, so, he could have cooperated otherwise also. May be he want to say that, he would have wiped out any evidence if any or arranged for a bail or he would have reached there with a lawyer. Isn't that, what he want to convey?

Weapons are given to you to use in this type of situation,,, Ashraf or his grandfather,,, they were not given to you for making puja on "Ayudha Puja" day.....

It's shameful that you did not dare to taste these thugs "Lathi"....just because Abhayachandra or Khader visited PS or some CONgress "Pudari" making phone calls....

You guys are fit to give "treatment" to soft targets like "Munir's" not hard targets like "Ashraf's"....

Karnataka Police are becoming the followers of Gujrat Police. They are trying their level best to fix the minority leaders in wrong cases and want to create a wrong public opinion for them. Ashraf is a ex mayor of Mangalore City Corporation and not the person to be absconded as the police officers explain. This is nothing but the conspiracy. IT is wrong what has been happened with the minor girl. At the same time police trying to achieve BJP agendas through this incident is condemnable. Already Mangalore Police have earned bad name in fake encounters. And now they want to make another drama????

In India there is not hope for Justice. Whenever bad things happen in there political issues comes and even political people involved in that matter then how innocent people will get justice. I really feel bad for the minor girl and also i am scared these bad people around us. If political person is involved in this case then police also cannot use their power. My request to Police please give justice for that minor girl and for her parents. Use your power and don't listen this stupid Political people. If justice is not given to that girl then tomarrow one more girls turn. Please wake up and give that girl Justice...!
