Udupi, Dec 11: A woman worker died and several others were injured after a tempo carrying labourers and concrete equipment overturned following a tyre burst on National Highway 66 near Hejamady Kannangaru Brahmabaidarkala Garadi on Thursday December 11.

The deceased has been identified as Parvati (30). Savitramma, Mahantesh, and five others sustained injuries in the accident. The tempo was transporting men and women along with a concrete mixing machine and other materials from Mulki towards Udupi. As the vehicle was moving at high speed, one of its tyres suddenly burst, causing the driver to lose control, resulting in the vehicle overturning.

Several workers were trapped under the overturned tempo, and locals rushed to their aid to pull them out. One woman was stuck beneath the machine, prompting strenuous efforts from the public and toll staff to rescue her.

The Hejamady toll ambulance and a crane arrived promptly and rescued the woman. She was severely injured and shifted to a private hospital in Mukka by the toll ambulance, but she succumbed to her injuries despite medical efforts. Padubidri police visited the spot and carried out an inspection.
