Kasargod, Feb 20: In what appears to be a case of mistaken identity, a woman was allegedly murdered by her male servant at her house in Madikai Adkatthaparamb here on Sunday February 19. The incident took place at around 8 pm.

The victim has been identified as Jisha (24), wife of Rajendran. The servant, Madan (26), a native of West Bengal is absconding and police are on the lookout for him.

Madan and Jisha

Jisha was allegedly stabbed by Madan in the kitchen. The residents of the house are said to have kept a watch on Madan's activities which led him to commit the murder, sources said.

Madan joined as a domestic servant about six months ago. He was appointed to look after Jisha's ailing father-in-law Kunhikannan Nayar. Rajendran's sister-in-law Shree Lekha is said to have kept a close vigil on Madan's movements, and the latter had plotted to kill her.

On the night of the murder, Madan found Shree Lekha in the kitchen and turned off the main power switch with an intention to kill her in the dark. However, as fate would have it, Shree Lekha by then had come out of the kitchen and Jisha had gone in. Mistaking Jisha to be Shree Lekha, he stabbed her.

An injured Jisha ran out of the house screaming, and collapsed. She was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Kanhangad and later shifted to a hospital in Mangalore where she succumbed to injuries.

It is said that Shree Lekha had openly questioned Madan's character several times in other people's presence. This infuriated Madan who planned to take revenge by killing her.

It is also learnt that the residents of the house had given Rs 10,000 to Madan a week ago to send him back to his native. But he reportedly said that he would leave next month. He disappeared soon after the murder, taking away his clothes and other belongings with him.

Rajendran who stays abroad arrived at his residence here on Monday February 20 morning.

Nileshwar police have begun a search for Madan. Police have also released a 'wanted' notice.

It is best to have a local support system to take care of our old and ailing people. "Serve" Mentality need to get a boost, many people don't even take care of their own people, how do you expect other to take care. People who are alien to our values down south here may not be best suited for care unless they have big heart like the sister's who serve at Mother Teresa's.
