Mangaluru: Three arrested in Surathkal house burglary case; gold, cash recovered

Mangaluru, Dec 16: Surathkal police have arrested three persons in connection with a house burglary reported from Mukka Mithrapatna, where gold ornaments and cash were stolen after the accused broke into the house of an elderly woman, Jalaja, on December 3.

The arrested have been identified as Shine H Putran alias Shayan alias Shine (21), a resident near Shri Rama Bhajana Mandir, Guddekopla, Surathkal; Vinod alias Kothi alias Vinod Kumar (33), a resident of Kashinagar 5th Cross, Yelachenahalli, Bengaluru; and Girish alias Cycle Giri (28), a resident of Udipalya, Kanakapura Main Road, Bengaluru.

Police have recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 4.43 lac, the motorcycle used for the crime, three mobile phones and Rs 3,000 in cash from the accused.

After registering the case, a police team led by Surathkal police sub-inspector Raghu Naik examined CCTV footage from the vicinity of the victim’s house. Based on the footage and subsequent questioning, Shine H Putran was taken into custody. During interrogation, he confessed to committing the burglary along with Jason alias Lenson, a resident of Karkala in Udupi district, and stated that the stolen gold ornaments were sold to Vinod Kumar in Bengaluru.

Following this lead, police arrested the three accused. Another accused, Jason alias Lenson of Karkala, who was directly involved in the crime, is currently absconding, and efforts are on to trace him.

Police stated that Shine H Putran has one case related to ganja consumption registered at the Surathkal police station. Vinod Kumar has a rowdy sheet opened against him at the KSR Layout police station in Bengaluru and is involved in multiple cases, including murder, attempt to murder, robbery, criminal intimidation, ganja sale and offences under the Arms Act. Girish alias Cycle Giri also has a rowdy sheet at the Kaggalipura police station in Bengaluru and faces several cases, including attempt to murder, robbery and assault, registered at various police stations in the city.
