New Delhi, Dec 16: A day after being appointed as the BJP’s new working national president, Nitin Nabin formally assumed charge at the party headquarters here on Monday in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and outgoing national president JP Nadda.
Thousands of party workers and office-bearers accorded a warm welcome to the 45-year-old leader, who arrived at the headquarters after a brief delay, reportedly due to his flight arriving late. He was received at the Delhi airport by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and other senior BJP leaders. Party sources indicated that Nabin is likely to eventually succeed JP Nadda as the party’s national president, signalling a generational shift within the ruling party.

Senior leaders described Nabin as a dynamic organiser with strong ideological roots and a deep commitment to the party. They said he interacted with leaders and workers, assuring them that he would work under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Nabin also has a background in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Speaking earlier in Patna before leaving for Delhi, Nabin said he had always followed the ideals of his father, former BJP MLA Nabin Kishor Prasad Sinha. “My father considered the party as his mother and placed the nation above everything else. I have always worked with those values,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nabin’s sudden elevation has sparked political speculation, with many linking the move to the West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled for 2026. Belonging to the Kayastha community, his appointment is expected to help the BJP strengthen its outreach among Kayastha voters and related sub-castes in the state, a senior party leader said.
