BJP Fields Sunil Kumar for Udupi-Chikmagalur Bypoll

Bangalore, Feb 21 (PTI): Ruling BJP in Karnataka today decided to field its Yuva Morcha President Sunil Kumar for the March 18 by-election to Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha seat.

Announcing this, BJP national General Secretary and State Election Committee Secretary H N Anant Kumar told PTI that Sunil Kumar was a former MLA from Karkala constituency.

Ananth Kumar expressed confidence that the BJP would win the seat by a thumping majority and retain it.

The by-poll has been necessitated after state Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda vacated the seat following his election to the assembly recently.

An advocate by profession, JPH is the son of K.Chandrashekar Hegde, a former District and Session Judge and Registrar of Karnataka High Court. He has represented Brahmavar constituency from 1994 to 2008 and he was Minster for Ports and Fisheries from 1994-1998.

As a state minister of fisheries back in 1997 he implemented several inland and reservoir fisheries programmes in Chikmagalur. Its prestige question to BJP, as its belong to DVS. no doubt BJP will spend money like anything like operation Kamala. and they try level best to retain the Seat. Yes Sunil kumar is from RSS might get good votes but we can't ruled out about Jayprakash Hegde. he is genuine person with clean image and no controversies. JH had gaven tough challenge to DVS in last election. honestly everyone want educated, genuine person like JH. but no doubt about BJP, they will spend money for this election, leaders from BJP central everyone wanted Karnataka in their hand. and for BJP also difficult to get other states like Karnataka.....

our Sunilanna will win comfortably this time as well. Last BJP got lead in six out of 8 ACs. (Except Kaapu and Shringeri) This time lead margin might reduce in Kundapur and Udupi but most likely that BJP will lead in all 8 Assembly constiuencies. There are no good leaders in BJP in Udupi Constituancy.Most of them are goondas, real estate agents and criminals. Even Dr V S Acharya had no confidence and hopes to win elections in Udupi constituancy when he was alive.Hence he preferred to stay away from contesting the elections each and every time.The only thing BJP may try its luck is to gather the sympathy votes of Dr V S Acharya.But Udupi is a learned constituency.Educated will vote for congress candidate where as communals will vote for BJP.

The day Dr. V.S. Acharya pass away, that was the end of BJP in Karnataka and also in Udupi. He was the only one of very few politicians in Karnataka who was clean and very well respected even by oppositions. @Avinash, Udupi Bellary defeat is accepted by BJP, but before that there were so many elections took place in our state and you might be knowing what was the fate of congress during that time. Also in order to point out the defeat of BJP even congress was not in a better position in Bellary. Even after split of votes between Sriramulu and BJP, it's a shame that congress was not able to secure half of the votes of the winning candidate Sriramulu. So advise you don't make hue and cry of BJP's defeat in Bellary.

Sunil Kumar is a able candidate but he is good as MLA. But not matured enough for MP job. Mr. Jayaprakash Hegde who is "Jayaprakash Narayan" of Udupi has served as minister during Janatha Dal rule. He has won 4 times from Brahmavar constituency which no more exists since 2008. Sunil Kumar will walk into the shoes of Hegde in experience n education. Hope he will not loose deposit like Bellary bye election.

Our previous MP DVS made Udupi and Chikmangalur people proud by becoming Chief Minister of the state. Now people of the region are eagerly waiting to make him happy by voting for his candidate Sunil Kumar. People know that this is the respect they need to show for our respected CM.

People had wait for 60 years to see some developments happening in the region. They realized only BJP can uplift them.

The name "DVS" itself is sufficient for Sunil Kumar to get 50% votes. Name Yeddy will fetch another 25% of votes.

Congress boat has already sunk in Arabian sea. No future for congress in Karnataka..

Sunil Kumar was edx MLA and not an MP. The Lokasabha constituency is far bigger than Karkala assembly seat. Sunil Kumar was communual and lost to the present sitting MLA Gopal Bhandary. He takes pride in the demolition of muslim places of worship. He doesnt believe in the rule of law and constitution of India. He is expert in hate venom and spreads hate amongst his own countrymen. Since its an election, the voters should know the value of their vote and should vote for the right candidate who works towards integration and peaceful society. Even this day, I am a fan and admirer of Shri Atalji. He is not communual. People should defeat the communual forces. All depends upon voters. People should look at the candidate and not the party...

You are right Ismail. Mr. Hegde is the best candidate and Sunil Kumar is nowhere near to him. But depends on voter's. Hope Mr. Hegde wins the election with huge margin. Though I am not congress supporter due to useless Oscar Fernandes who did nothing for the people. But Mr. Hegde really works for people and he should win..

The reason for delay in announcement of congress candidate:- Congress have seriously started working for this election more than 15-20 days back. But still unable to announce its candidate. The reason is this: They have finalized the 2-3 names and sent them to Hi-Command in Delhi through professional couriers from Bangalore last week. Since it is interstate courier it takes 3 days to get delivered at Sonia's house. Sonia is believed to have already ed the candidate and sent courier today (since yesterday was holiday). The courier is expected to arrive at B'lore KPCC office by Thursday afternoon. Parameshi will announce the candidate after opening the letter on Thursday evening..

It is heard that few congress leaders will not take part in campaign if their candidate is not given ticket to contest... LOL :-)
