Dear Prajwal Shetty, I agree that bcz of land reforms Shettys lost lots of land given on Chalgeni.. We too got some land bcz of land reforms 35 yrs ago in island, which cannot be sold nor cannot be cultivated bcz of rising cost n reduced yield. We too lost land close to roads, especially to Bhillawas community with houses. But believe me we could have pushed them out forcefully. But we abide with law of the land.

Even today their families are sincere n working in our fields n they haven't forgotten us. We too help them in theirnecessitys without expecting anything in return. When you give something willfully you will feel good. What we lost, 10 times God gave us back. So plz forget the past n vote for Hegde whom you know better than me.

    About

An advocate by profession, JPH is the son of K.Chandrashekar Hegde, a former District and Session Judge and Registrar of Karnataka High Court. He has represented Brahmavar constituency from 1994 to 2008 and he was Minster for Ports and Fisheries from 1994-1998.

As a state minister of fisheries back in 1997 he implemented several inland and reservoir fisheries programmes in Chikmagalur. On the coastal belt, he had given micro credit linkage to the fishermen enterprises as early as 1997 - five years before the central government came up with the Micro Credit idea. The local fishermen remember his immense contribution to Karnataka fisheries even today.

Jayaprakash Hegde contested as the Congress candidate in the 2009 Parliamentary elections in Udupi-Chikmagalur and lost to the then BJP President Mr. D.V. Sadananda Gowda by a narrow margin. What makes JPH popular in this constituency and the entire coastal belt is his clean image and focus on developmental activities regardless of defeat.

JPH has tirelessly worked for the people of South Kanara over the past 25 years. Politicians are often perceived to be in accessible and intimidating. However, JPH broke the mold in this region with his approachable nature and has since set the trend for others in this field, to follow suit. His deeply secular and progressive nature has made him a very popular leader. His simplicity and dedication to social causes speak for his integrity and have earned him the reputation of being a principled politician.

@Chareles D'Mello, me too watch him on Kannada news channels. Mr. Hegde I know him personally. He is not like other politicians who speak big big things n does nothing. That is his humbleness he told that way that doesnt meant his chances are weak. just go through Jayaprakash Hegde Abhimanigala Sangha at his website: www.Jayaprakashhegde.com and feel the difference. He means what says, he does what he promise. He don't flatter himself rather he speaks less of himself. His interview came even on prominent Hindi n English channels the day he was elected. He was minister for Port n Fisheries from 1994 to 1998. Brahmaver constituency was under him from 1994 to 2008. He is in active politics since 25 yrs.

    DR Kamath,
Appreciate yr comments.Congress is inherited the corruption and goondaism since long long back and theres no doubt about it including recent case of kicking of other party workers while Rahul visited UP. Rahul never uttered a word!
Karnataka BJP is also is heaven for corruption/goondas as its clearly evident several ministers in jail and Exchief minister himself has come out of jail now. Iron ore scam cannot be called as Baccha coruption its massive corruption. If Congress is big brother in corruption BJP is twin brother. Both are ditto twins!

It was interesting to read some comments that some people don't want to vote for congress because of Indira Gandhi or because of the allegation of looting the country, etc. At the same time, one wonders how these people can take the grudge of 30 years back in today’s time. That is the real problem what we have. We don't want to elect governments based on what we want today. If you look at the BJP government in Karnataka, it was busy looting the natural resources since it got to power. Then they would acquire the land in their names, the exact reason why Indira Gandhi wanted the land reform act. Yet, with the arrogance of power, these BJP leaders and supporters are not seeing the real face of its own party.
As someone pointed out Sunil Kumar lost Karkala MLA election, because even the people who voted him in his first term knew what kind of bad leader he was. If one wants to fight an election in the name of Hinduthva, there is no guarantee that he will do the development work. Today when Oscar Fernandes, JPH, Vnay Kumar Sorake, Gopal Bhandary roam freely and they talk to people. Whereas Raghupati Bhat and Sunil Kumar don't walk without a bodyguard. I wonder, why and what these leaders from BJP are scared of?
Also electing JPH makes more sense since Congress government is already at the center. If we have even the slightest care for our Udupi, we want to make sure that our MP is from the ruling party. Electing Sunil Kumar, nobody will get anything...

On the other hand Sunil kumar from BJP 1 time MLA from karkala people taught him a lesson in last election by making him to loose by higher margin whole state and udupi district was in BJP waves but sunil kumar lost last election people came to know his leadership in one term.He is fit to be bajarag dal karyakartha not a MP. No Doubt Mr JPH is more educated and experienced leader than Mr Sunil Kumar- But present UPA2 has been looting the country from their heights and they do not deserve any new MPS to be elcted with Cong-I symbol.

Its better to elect Mr Sunil Kumar atleast to show our anger against UPA.

MR Sunil Kumar thought not an good choice but still i guess even the Bunts will favour him looking at UPA-2 Govt.
Sunil kumar is an wrong man in Right Party whereas Mr JPH is an Right man in wrong Party.

even if hegde is defeated we will be happy this vote is not against him but against UPA.
if Hegde wins the Election then people have voted for his personal caliber not favouring Cong-I.

JPH can not sit and bask in the limelight now on becoming the congress candidate. His battle just started and he has tons of efforts to put in. He should bear in mind the organisation powers of BJP. BJP has huge organisation capabilities where in their workers can go door to door and persuade the people to vote for them. The very evidence of this is the defeat of veteran Janardhan Poojary to unknown Naveen Kumar Kateel in the Mangalore constituency. He and the congress workers should start the work at the grassroot people level on this basis. Gone are the days where even a light kamba or bamboo pole could win on a congress ticket. People specially in Udupi constituency are well educated and very well know whom to elect Only saving grace for him will be his character. He also has two strong waves to fight with Ex MP DVS being CM and the demise of VSA.

Well, we have 19 BJP MPs from karnataka and we still blame the 6 Congress MPs for not getting a train to mangalore. Don't take me wrong, if the numbers were reversed (i.e. 19 congress and 6 BJP), i can bet we will still not get a train from bangalore. And for this, as you said we cannot blame those hard working Kerala MPs. Question is, how many MP/MLAs own/operate/profit from transportation (bus and trucks) business between Bangalore and Mangalore? I do like train and wish to have a fast train between Mangalore and Bangalore but I don't believe any political party will help us get that. That's all...

If we need trains from Kerala and bangalore extended to mangalore/udupi, we shouls ask our local MLA/MP folks to talk on our behalf. It doesn't make any sense to blame Kerala ministers when our MLA/MP's are busy developing their own personal wealth. Who should treat us fairly? I believe it is the responsibility of the elected representatives from the twin districts. Are they fighting for our cause? Doesn't look like it... If your assumption was true electing a BJP representative will get us better infrastructure, then we should have had world class railway in Mangalore and Udupi by now since most of the representatives are BJP.
Just for the record, i hardly care about congress or BJP because in the next "Operation Kamala or Operation Jalaja" you never know who is going to be Congress and who is BJP!!!

Mr Hegde himself is not confident of winning the election. I just watched ETV Kannada Nadi @ 10:30 PM. He said "ನಾನು ಗೆಲ್ಲುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಇದೆ." It clearly says what he meant!

To win election one needs majority votes. Minority votes is negligible, just 15%.

My Dear Christrian brethren, pls do not jump up & down at the ion of JPH as Cong I candidate from Udupi. Despite being an able candidate [I fully agree], pls accept the reality that our DK dist is a BJP bastion all throughout and there is no chance of Cong I victory in the near future because of the good deeds done in the constituency by our erstwhile Cong MPs for over 30 yrs [hope my friends agree with this]. You will be in for a utter disappointment when the results are announced. Best of Luck Mr. JPH, you are the right candidate in a wrong party.

As I know you in person and your works you are an added feather to our National Congress party. Dear Naveen Sequeira,

The Udupi-Chikmaglur election is being held to choose the representative for the people of the region. He should listen to his people and solve their problems.

We know Kerala is part of India. But the winner will represent this part of India. He will not represent Kerala part of India.

Due to apathy of congress leaders people of this region have been deprived of train facilities to Bangalore. Go to Kerala and see. Every small village has train connectivity to Bangalore.

Every region has the right to ask for fundamental facilities. It is your stupidity to say extending trains (that are benefiting Mangaloreans) to Kerala will develop Kerala. Who will develop Mangalore man? If our ministers does not develop our cities, will Kerala ministers come here and develop our cities? Think about it..

Kerala development is OK. But why snatching others rights? Does Kannadigas not deserve same facilities?

Kannur was already connecting to Bangalore. But still do you enjoy extension of Mangalore train to Kannur? Will you call this development of India? Do not you think our Udupi and Karwar belongs to India and they also needs to be developed?

Can you just imagine why Kerala ministers do not think the same way? They know developing Kerala is developing India.

But our congress ministers does not know developing Karnataka is developing India.

In a class of 100 students all 100 students should pass the examination. Then only we will have better society. Understand this and comment sensibly.

@Dinesh Poojary, If BJP wins one more guy will involve in landscam n corruption n will watch porn film. If the trains fly to Kerala it has to run through our state don't worry abt it. Instead of Lootmar development is better. If Hegde loose I will stop commenting on politics in this website. Make a copy of my comments n keep for future to remind me. Birds of similar feathers floc together. Don't look at the party? Check the educstion n ability n his past developmental works before you comment.

Available for needy people irrespective of religion, social status. Very good choice for MP seat. Though I dont like Congress as an individual JP is very good and able candidate. Karnataka is also part of India. Kannadigas are also Indians. All Indians should be treated equally.

It is because of people like you in congress party, our local people are losing the facilities and railway jobs.

    Dinesh,
I thought Kerala was part of India, as an "Indian" we all should be happy about our country's development (including Kerala). Isn't it sad that we have "Kannadiga", "Mallu" but unfortunately no "Indians"!!!
This is our weakness and that's how we lost our independence.

This is like my dream come true. God bless him. God bless congress. God bless Sonia. I don't care who is competing from BJP that's irrelevant. Even if Yeddy himself compete no problem. He will lose deposit. Hegde suffered in the past bcz his constiuency was cancelled n merged into Kundapur n Udupi. I want to see Mr. Jayaprakash Hegde in national level. He is our Jayaprakash Narayan of Udupi. I request Udupi n chikamamglore voters to vote sensibly. Without falling into temptations of money or alcohol from BJP. Hegde is educated n respectful man. He can do a lot for our constituency. He will take our constituency to no. 1 position before he retire from politics. Its bcz of public pressure he is competing. Brahmavar public used to donate him for
election expences. He is always available at Congress office every week to listen public problems. No security of any kind freely moving with public as a common man. Please do vote for him. Don't look at the party's. Vote for his ability n for the developments he did during his 20yrs tenure as Brahmavar MLA.
