Udupi Bypoll: Madhu Bangarappa JD(S) Candidate?

Daijiworld Media Network

Udupi / Bangalore Feb 21: The Udupi-Chikmagalur bypoll fever has started to heat up as two prominent parties Congress and BJP announced their candidates officially on Tuesday February 21.

The constituency vacated due to Sadananda Gowda's resignation after being elevated to the post of chief minister of Karnataka is going to poll on March 18.

Jayaprakash Hegde, who lost the election against D V Sadananda Gowda in 2009 by 27,000-plus margin has been once again given the chance by the Congress high command. Other two aspirants Vinay Kumar Sorake and Chikmagalur-based B L Shankar seem to be disappointed with this move.

Similarly, Sunil Kumar, who lost the 2008 Karkala assembly poll against Congress' Gopal Bhandary was officially announced as BJP candidate by K S Eshwarappa in Bangalore on Tuesday.

JD(S) is also set to field a candidate for the seat. Former Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy, speaking to Daijiworld in Bangalore said that JD(S) is taking this bypoll seriously, and will encash every opportunity to win the election.

"Our party workers are very much favouring Madhu Bangarappa to be JD(S) candidate. There are other aspirants also, we will finalise the name latest by Thursday," he said.

Madhu Bangarappa, son of former CM of Karnataka the late Sarekoppa Bangarappa, represents Billawa community. The JD(S) star campaigner could spoil some votes from Sunil Kumar, who also hails from the same community. But some other political experts say that Madhu might spoil Congress votes rather than those of BJP on 'secular' grounds.

Karnataka elections is usually fought on the basis of caste. J P Hegde represents the Bunts community.

Daijiworld has learnt that many Congress party workers were reportedly demanding Priayanka Gandhi's candidature to contest the bypoll from Udupi - Chikmagalur.

JDS' span is limited only to Hassan, Mysore, Ramanagara and Tumkur. Now a days it is losing its scene. Next election they might win 20 seats maximum.

State people have already seen incomplete 20-20 match. They do not want to see such match again.

Very soon one more WORD will be added to English dictionary i.e

DEVEGOWDA: Cheating, betrayer, traitor, scum, kumaraswamy, etc

Mahendra Kumar, once a fire brand of BD,now adopted by Kumaranna had uttered in Kundapura some times back that he would wipe out BJP in the state.I think ,he should be given a chance in Udupi to commence his innings!!!

Direct contest between BJP & Cong. Do you think Kumaranna is not aware that Madhu Bangarappa is an alien to Udipi. He knows. Also he knows whoever the candidate from JDS cannot win. He fielded Madhu with a purpose. It is just to take Bangarappa's money and sideline his son in the party so that he will not become a threat to Gowda & sons superiority in the party.

IF JD(S) can make a real formidable formula and spend lot of money then Madhu can turnaround the result. All depends on how much they want to spend and if they want to spend!. Real Real action plan is needed to achieve this master uphill task but nothing is impossible.Madhu has a advantage of Billava,Bangarappas Son,Young Leader, Charisma of Films etc.

If JD(S) goes in a normal way Madhu may not even retain deposit.Billavas are really looking for a opportunity where they can create a formiddable strong top leader which is ofcourse available in Madhu. Ball is in Madhu and Kumaraswamy court and depends how they want to play! Billavas are strong community and they are fully capable of turning around the result. There are other communities linked with Billavas they too are in large nos !

@Ismail, maybe you don't know the history of Udupi politics, majority of Billavas have been traditionally voting for Congress no matter what. This time their votes might be shared by JDS and Congress. Also, BJP might loose lot of bunt votes this time because of JP Hegde.

Nothing but a proxy for the BJP to split secular votes. Maybe a secret deal between the corrupt Devegowda and the BJP with millions exchanging hands. Even if only a crow opposes Devegowda's man in Udipi, the crow will win. hahahahahahahaha

    Madhu,

Please go back. We dont know you. You are an outsider. Do u know where Kalsanka is located? Do you know what are the problems faced by the people in and around Udupi. Do you what poverty is. You are bron rich and shall die rich and you want to become more rich by becoming MP. The day shall not see the sunlight and you shall not get elected.....People of your home town rejected you and we shall not accept you yaar...Waste of time and resources. We have our native Hegde and Sunil. We shall elect one of them and certainly not you.

This time all bunts shall vote for Mr Hegde....

Durgadas Suvarna..Especially in Karnataka elections are fought and candidates are selected according to caste power available in the constituency. This trend started when BJP tasted power in centre and state.Example.....SUNIL KUMAR.Certainly, Jayapraksh Hegde stands above all caste and creed. Therefore, appeal to Chick-UDUPI voters to cast valuable votes for JPHegde.

ISMAIL.K.PERINJE, PERINJE-YANBU/KSA i think you are still living in those olden age. Now a days people wont vote based on caste. There is nothing like billawas, bunts, mogaveeras, konkani etc. People will vote based on their own thinking and will definately the right candidate.

Billawas will not vote for this ugly party. Many people of Udupi doesn't know about JDS.

Majority of Billawas votes are guaranteed for Sunil Kumar.. Few will go for congress..
