Kundapur, Dec 21: A fire broke out at the SLRM dry waste processing unit belonging to Koteshwar gram panchayat, causing damage to property worth several lacs of rupees, in the early hours of Sunday.

The SLRM unit has been functioning for the past four to five years behind the gram panchayat office (old grampanchayat building). Commercial buildings are located in and around the lower portion of the premises, while the dry waste processing unit is situated on the upper level. An accidental fire reportedly broke out in the dry waste stored at the unit, resulting in the destruction of dry waste materials, machinery, and tin sheets.

The fire also caused damage to materials in a few shops, including a vegetable shop, located in the adjoining commercial complex.

Ayyappa devotees who noticed the fire in the morning alerted the authorities and informed the fire brigade. Fire personnel from Kundapur and Byndoor rushed to the spot and successfully brought the blaze under control.
