Dakshina Kannada District Sahitya Parishad condoles demise of educationist Prof S Prabhakar

Mangaluru, Dec 24: The Dakshina Kannada District Sahitya Parishad has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of noted educationist Prof S Prabhakar, the founder principal of SDM College, Ujire.

Remembering him as a renowned educationist who made immense contributions towards strengthening the education system, the Parishad stated that his passing has caused profound grief. Prof Prabhakar had served as a professor in Bengaluru for five years before resigning from government service. He later served as the founder principal of SDM College, Ujire, from 1966 to 1993, dedicating himself to providing quality education to students from rural areas and working tirelessly for their academic development.

He also served Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Trust as its secretary and vice-president, and contributed significantly as a member and chairman of various committees of the Mysuru and Mangaluru universities, sharing his vast experience for the growth of the institutions and committees he was associated with.

As a writer, Prof Prabhakar authored three books and edited 18 publications. He served for 40 years as the editor of Manjuvani, the monthly magazine of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala. He was actively involved in intellectual discourse, with his discussions, reflections and speeches being broadcast on All India Radio, Mangaluru, and other stations.

He also served for several years as the secretary of the Sarva Dharma Sahitya Sammelanas held at Dharmasthala. Prof Prabhakar was the president of the Beltangady Taluk Sahitya Sammelanas for seven years, during which he played a key role in steering literary activities. It was during his tenure that the Taluk Sahitya Parishat was established, a notable milestone. He was instrumental in strengthening the Belthangady unit of the Sahitya Parishat.

Expressing condolences, Dakshina Kannada District Sahitya Parishad president Dr M P Srinath, in his message, prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and for God to grant strength to the bereaved family to bear the loss.
