Moscow, Dec 28: Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 111 Ukrainian drones within a span of three hours over six Russian regions, including eight drones over Moscow.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin later said that another group of 11 drones was shot down while heading towards the capital, as air defence units continued to repel the aerial attack.

Following the incidents, Russia’s aviation watchdog Rosaviatsia announced temporary airspace restrictions at Moscow’s Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo airports, citing security concerns.

Authorities said the measures were taken to ensure passenger safety, while monitoring of the situation remains ongoing.
