Kasargod: Merchants Draw Shutters to Protest Against FDI in Retail Sector

Kasargod, Feb 23: The traders staged a protest across the district on Wednesday February 22 by downing shutters of their shops against the foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail industry in the country.

Merchants’ Association zonal president A K Moideen Kunhi inaugurated the protest that was held in front of the head post office on Wednesday.

M A Shafi, P C Bava, Mahin Kolikkara, M Mohammed, Kabir Navaratna, K Sasidaran, E A Abdul Jaleel, Ganesh Nayak, and A M A Rahim were present on the occasion.

The Merchants’ Association opposes the move of the union government in allowing MNCs of FDI in retail trade which they speculate will have adverse effects on the national banking system, insurance, education, and media.
