Udupi, Dec 31: Shirva police have arrested an accused involved in a scooter theft case and recovered five stolen two-wheelers from different police station limits.

According to the complaint, Gunavathi’s son Kaushik had taken her Honda Activa scooter to the Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Engineering, Bantakal, on December 5. Around 12.45 pm, during the lunch break, he went to the Durga Parameshwari Temple at Bantakal for lunch and parked the scooter there. When he returned at about 1.15 pm, the scooter was found missing. The value of the stolen scooter was estimated at Rs 60,000.

Following the registration of the case, Shirva police formed a special team to trace the accused. After conducting searches in Udupi, Malpe, Karkala and Dharmasthala areas, the police arrested the accused, identified as Om Kolar.

During interrogation, the police recovered one two-wheeler related to the Shirva police station limits and four other two-wheelers connected to theft cases registered in Kapu and Bengaluru city police station limits, taking the total number of recovered vehicles to five.

The accused was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Karkala assistant superintendent of police Dr Harsha Priyamvada and Kapu circle inspector Ajmath Ali, and under the leadership of the Shirva police station inspector.

The operation team included Shirva PSI Manjunath Marbad, Lohith Kumar C S, and staff members Manjunath Adiga, Dayanand Prabhu, Anwar Ali, Siddarayappa, Manjunath Hosamani, Kiran, Shivanandappa and Basavaraj.
