Puttur: Couple arrested for midnight burglary attempt on retired principal’s home

Puttur, Dec 31: A Couple identified as Karthik Rao (31) and his wife K S Swathi Rao (25) have been arrested by police in Puttur Kasaba for allegedly attempting a midnight burglary at the home of 84-year-old retired principal A V Narayana. Authorities have also seized the motorcycle reportedly used by the couple in the crime.

According to complainant Narayana, the incident occurred at midnight on December 17, when two unidentified individuals wearing helmets and concealing their faces entered his house through the back door. "They threatened both me and my wife and tried to steal our valuables. During the struggle, my wife was hurt, and I had to shout loudly," he said.

The assailants, apparently frightened by the commotion, fled through the back door. No items were reported stolen.

Following Narayana’s complaint, Puttur City police registered Case No. 127/2025 under Sections 307 and 3(5) BNS 2023.

Investigations revealed the identities of the accused as Karthik Rao, a resident of Puttur/Muduru currently renting in Panj, and his wife Swathi Rao. Authorities also noted that Karthik Rao had been working as an assistant priest.

The couple remains in police custody as investigations into the attempted burglary continue.
