Udupi, Jan 2: In view of New Year celebrations, Christmas and other festivals, a special drive was conducted across the district to enforce strict road safety measures. During the operation, a total of 1,199 cases were registered for traffic rule violations, and fines amounting to Rs 9,62,400 were imposed.
As part of the special drive held from December 24 to December 31, a total of 29 check-posts were set up across the district, with all police officers participating in the operation. During this special drive, 1,199 cases were registered and fines totalling Rs 9,42,600 were imposed, Udupi district superintendent of police Hariram Shankar said.

Providing further details, he said that cases included 103 instances of drunk driving, 803 cases of riding without helmets, 243 cases of driving without wearing seat belts, 35 cases of triple riding on two-wheelers, and 15 cases of using mobile phones while driving.
