Udupi: Ace photojournalist Astro Mohan receives AFIAP distinction from FIAP

Media Release

Udupi, Dec 3: Senior photojournalist and visual storyteller Astro Mohan has been conferred the Associate (AFIAP) distinction by the Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP), the world’s apex body for photographic art.

While AFIAP is considered an entry-level distinction within the FIAP honours system, it carries special significance in the context of Karnataka, where very few working photojournalists have achieved international FIAP recognition. In that sense, this honour stands out as a meaningful milestone for the photojournalism fraternity of the state.

Astro Mohan, with over three decades of professional experience, is widely known for documenting culture, heritage, rituals, and everyday life through powerful visual narratives. His photographs have received acceptances and awards in numerous national and international exhibitions, bringing global visibility to stories rooted in Karnataka.

The distinction not only recognises his consistent international presence but also highlights the growing contribution of Indian—and particularly Karnataka-based—photojournalists to the global photographic movement.
