Hubballi, Jan 5: In a move aimed at promoting digital ticketing, Indian Railways has announced a 3% payment discount on unreserved (general) tickets booked through its official mobile application, RailOne.

The discount scheme will be in force for a six-month period, from January 14 to July 14, railway officials said.

The RailOne app allows passengers to book both reserved and unreserved railway tickets using a single digital platform. Apart from ticket bookings, the application provides a range of passenger-centric services, including real-time train running information, PNR status checks, journey planning assistance, and the facility to lodge complaints through Rail Madad services. Passengers can also order food during their train journey using the app.

According to a release issued by South Western Railway, the RailOne application has been developed with a focus on ease of use and enhanced security.

The app features M-PIN and biometric-based secure login options, ensuring safer access for users. It also supports R-Wallet payments and offers seamless integration with RailConnect and UTS accounts, enabling smoother and faster transactions.

Railway officials said the initiative is intended to encourage passengers to adopt digital platforms while offering a direct financial incentive for booking unreserved tickets through the RailOne app. The discount, they added, is expected to benefit daily commuters and short-distance travellers who frequently rely on general tickets.

With the introduction of the limited-period discount and a host of integrated passenger services, Indian Railways aims to make digital ticketing more attractive, convenient and secure for travellers across the network.
