Brahmavar, Jan 8: A major fire broke out in Neelavara village of Brahmavar taluk on Thursday, January 8, triggering panic among residents. The fire was reported on both sides of the road leading from Matapadi village towards Neelavara, with flames spreading rapidly.
The blaze initially erupted along the roadside near the dye maker industry and later intensified, spreading to surrounding areas. Pineapple plantations, dry grass, shrubs and bushes in the vicinity were gutted in the fire. Arecanut plantations, coconut trees and jackfruit plants in nearby areas also suffered damage.





The locality houses several small-scale industries. However, due to the timely intervention of local residents along with the fire and emergency services, a major mishap was averted and no casualties were reported.
The swift response by locals and firefighters helped bring the fire under control, preventing it from spreading further and causing additional damage.
In recent days, repeated fire incidents have been reported in and around the Brahmavar region, intensifying public demand for a permanent fire station at the taluk headquarters. At present, fire tenders are dispatched from Udupi during emergencies, a situation that has become a source of public concern and growing anger among residents.
