Mangaluru, Jan 9: In connection with the accident that occurred at Yeyyadi Junction on June 11, 2023, which led to the death of a bike rider, the court has sentenced the car driver Vinod Kumar, a resident of Santosh Nagar, Vamanjoor, to 15 months of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 16,500.
In the accident, bike rider Veerappa Veerabhadrappa Haligeri and his son, who was riding pillion, sustained injuries. Veerappa was thrown onto the front windshield of the car and then fell onto the road, suffering severe head injuries. Though he was admitted to hospital, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. A case in this regard was registered at the Traffic East police station.

During the investigation, it was found that the car’s insurance policy and pollution under control certificate were not valid at the time of the accident. Traffic East police station inspector Gopalakrishna Bhat, who investigated the case, filed the charge sheet before the court.
After hearing the case, Judge Fawaz P A of the Mangaluru JMFC 8th court pronounced the verdict, holding the accused guilty.
On behalf of the prosecution, assistant government pleader Geetha Rai conducted the examination of some witnesses, while assistant government pleader Aaron D’Souza Vittla examined the remaining witnesses and argued the case.
