Mangaluru skaters Yuvraj, Tasmayi shine at 69th SGFI National Speed Skating Championship

Mangaluru, Jan 9: Roller skaters from Mangaluru brought laurels to the district by delivering an impressive performance at the 69th School Games Federation of India (SGFI) National Speed Skating Championship, held recently in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

The prestigious championship was organised by ITM Global School and witnessed participation from over 1,100 selected skaters representing various states across the country.

Representing the Mangaluru Roller Skating Club, young skater Yuvraj Kunder emerged as a standout performer, clinching two gold medals in the 500-metre and 2000-metre events. His consistent speed and technique helped him dominate both races at the national-level meet.

Another promising skater from Mangaluru, Tasmayi M Shetty, also put up a commendable show by winning two bronze medals. She secured third place in the 500-metre rink race and the 2000-metre road race, showcasing strong competitive spirit against top skaters from across India.

Both skaters are undergoing professional training under coaches Mahesh Kumar and Shravan, whose guidance played a key role in their success.

Medal winners from Mangaluru:

• Yuvraj Kunder – 2 Gold medals (Gonzaga St Aloysius School)

• Tasmayi M Shetty – 2 Bronze medals (Sharada Vidyalaya, Mangaluru)
