Bangalore: Udupi Bypoll - JD(S) Youth Leader Madhu Bangarappa Not to Contest

Bangalore, Feb 24: JD(S) Youth wing state president Madhu Bangarappa has clarified that he is not the party’s candidate for the bypoll being held on March 18 for Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency.

Speaking to media persons at Bangalore on Friday February 24, he said that the party will be announcing its candidate for the bypoll within a couple of days.

Madhu Bangarappa, son of former CM of Karnataka the late Sarekoppa Bangarappa, represents the Billawa community.

Though JD(S) state chief Kumaraswamy had earlier expressed that the party was in favour of Madhu Bangarappa as its candidate, the latter himself has stated in clear terms that he would not be contesting.

The Udupi-Chikmagalur bypoll will be held on March 18, and the results will be announced on March 21. JD(S) will have to announce its candidate before February 29, which is the last day for filing nominations.

On February 21, both Congress and BJP announced their candidates - Jayaprakash Hegde and Sunil Kumar, respectively.
