Beltangady: Jairam Ramesh Presides over Meeting on RSETI

Beltangady, Feb 25: The first meeting of National Advisory Committee was held on Thursday February 23 at the office of the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD).

Union minister for rural development Jairam Ramesh presided over the meeting.

MoRD secretary, joint secretary, and other dignitaries from the MoRD apart from top executives from various nationalized banks and officials from various entrepreneurship development organizations across the country were present on the occasion.

Impressed by the success of the Rural Development and Self Employment Training Institute (RUDSETI) model in addressing the unemployment problem of the country through short term training and long term hand holding, union MoRD has accepted this model as replicable throughout the country and directed all the nationalized banks with lead bank responsibilities to open RUDSETI type institutes i.e., RSETIs in all the 600 plus districts of the country.

While the banks are monitoring the financial aspects of RSETIs, the quality aspect of training was not monitored closely. In order to introduce an effective mechanism for monitoring the activities of RSETIs and to ensure uniform standards of training and settlement rates across the country, the MoRD, New Delhi, entered into a historic MOU on July 29, 2011 with National Academy of RUDSETI.

After signing of the MOU, a national advisory committee on RSETIs was notified by the MoRD under the chairmanship of Dr D Veerendra Heggade, president of National Academy of RUDSETI, to give policy guidance to the ministry for making RSETI intervention more effective.
