Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 16: Nandanaa G P, a young aspirant from Kerala, has made a remarkable mark in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024 by securing an impressive All-India Rank (AIR) of 47, emerging as one of the state’s top performers.
Hailing from a quiet setting in Kollam district, Nandanaa’s journey to cracking one of India’s toughest competitive exams was rooted in persistence, strategic preparation and a deep desire to serve society. After graduating with a degree in English Literature from Mar Ivanios College in Thiruvananthapuram in 2022, she embarked on her UPSC preparation. This was her second attempt, having taken the exam in 2023 but falling short of success the first time.

Nandanaa attributed her motivation to a strong commitment to public service, particularly a wish to work for the upliftment of marginalised communities. She underwent formal training at Fortune IAS Academy in Thiruvananthapuram, where focused guidance helped her hone her preparation, especially for the Mains and interview stages.
Her strategy involved consistent study routines, extensive answer writing practice, and refining her understanding of core subjects — a method that proved crucial in elevating her performance from her first to second attempt. Nandanaa’s success underscores the value of resilience and strategic planning in cracking the UPSC civil services exam.
In the wider context, Kerala delivered an impressive performance in the UPSC 2024 results, with six candidates, including five women, ranking in the all-India top 100. Other notable achievers from the state included Alfred Thomas (AIR 33), Malavika G Nair (AIR 45), Sonnet Jose (AIR 54), Reenu Anna Mathew (AIR 81) and Devika Priyadersini (AIR 95).
Nandanaa expressed her preference for a Kerala cadre posting, where she aims to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state and its people, especially in areas where government intervention can improve lives.
Her success story is inspiring countless aspirants across the country, illustrating that perseverance, focused preparation, and a clear vision can turn aspirations into reality — even in the face of initial setbacks.
