Bengaluru, Jan 16: Cyclonic activity has intensified along the Tamil Nadu coast, leading to heavy rainfall in the region, with its impact now being felt in parts of Karnataka as well. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the possibility of rain in the state on Friday January 16. The weather department has also indicated that cold conditions, which have already intensified across Karnataka this season, may worsen further in several areas.
According to the IMD, the strengthening cyclonic system along the Tamil Nadu coast is likely to bring rainfall to Karnataka on Friday. Along with rain, temperatures are expected to dip again in various regions, intensifying the cold weather conditions.

Light to moderate rainfall is likely in some districts of the state on Friday. The chances of rain are higher in Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, Hassan and Kodagu districts. This weather activity is attributed to a system prevailing over the Tamil Nadu coast, which has moved via the Sri Lanka coast and is bringing rainfall to southern regions. Coastal Karnataka may also experience light to moderate rain.
Cold weather has been particularly severe in Karnataka this season. The northern interior districts are witnessing a further dip in temperatures, with cold wave-like conditions reported in some places. The IMD has warned that cold conditions could intensify again in several regions. People are experiencing discomfort due to the cold during early mornings and nights. Fog has also been reported in some districts, affecting visibility and disrupting vehicular movement.
