Udupi, Jan 16: In view of the Paryaya festival of Sri Shiroor Math, presided over by Sri Vedadwardhana Teertha Swamijk, scheduled to be held at Udupi Sri Krishna Math on January 17 and 18, the district administration has declared a dry day in Udupi city and surrounding areas.
Following a report submitted by the Superintendent of Police, Udupi District, citing possible law and order issues due to large public gatherings and cultural programmes planned on the eve of the Paryaya, the deputy commissioner Swaroopa T K, has issued an order prohibiting the sale of liquor.

As per the order, the sale of alcohol will be banned from 10 Am on January 17 to 6 Pm on January 18, within the Udupi City Municipal limits and gram panchayat areas including Udyavara, Korangrapady, Alevoor, Hirebettu, Ambalapady, Kutpady, Kadekaru, Kediyoor, Mooduthonse, and Paduthonse, covering a radius of 10 to 15 kilometres.
All bars, restaurants, and wine shops holding excise licences in the notified areas have been directed to remain closed during the stipulated period. The order has been issued to ensure public peace and smooth conduct of the Paryaya celebrations.
The district administration has appealed to the public and business owners to cooperate with the authorities and adhere strictly to the dry day regulations.
