Jharkhand, Jan 22: ‘I have become an IAS’, these words from their son over a phone call sent waves of joy through the household, as parents danced with happiness. Bringing immense pride to Dumka and the entire state of Jharkhand, Rasikpur resident Saurav Sinha had secured an impressive All India Rank 49 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, achieving the feat in his fourth attempt.

Often said that true talent needs no introduction, Saurav’s success stands as a shining example. Beginning his educational journey in a relatively backward region like Dumka in the Santhal Pargana division, Saurav’s achievement is hailed as a major milestone. His rank of 49 at the national level not only illuminated Dumka but also brought laurels to Jharkhand.

Saurav’s father, Priyavrat Sinha, works as the head clerk at the Dumka Bar Association, while his mother Vibha Sinha is a homemaker. Saurav is the elder of two sons, with his younger brother named Rishabh.

Saurav completed his early education at Green Mount Academy in Dumka, where he passed both his Class 10 and Class 12 examinations. In his second attempt, he cleared the JEE Mains examination and later pursued higher education at IIT Kharagpur, earning both BTech and MSc degrees.

Saurav Sinha’s journey to cracking the UPSC Civil Services Examination was marked by perseverance and learning from past attempts. After facing setbacks in his earlier tries — reaching the Mains but missing the final selection — Saurav refined his preparation strategy, focused on improving his answer writing, time management, mock test practice and strengthening his conceptual understanding before his fourth attempt. He balanced these efforts with his professional work and continued self-study, demonstrating resilience and commitment that eventually helped him secure an impressive All India Rank 49 in the UPSC exam.
