Dr Henry D'Souza, Bishop of Bellary, after lighting the lamp, said that the youth should strive to bring about a change in the society. "The life of Jesus should inspire the young minds to do good to the people. It is important to inculcate values of life as in academics. Sacrifice is all that works for bringing that change in the society. Let the youth build a new society," he added.
Arun Furtado, KAS, district social welfare minister spoke on the occasion. He advised the students to opt more for government jobs rather than in the private sector. He insisted that the former gives more status to individual in the society, financial freedom and better incentives than the latter. He also said that its better to work and serve our own people rather than look for jobs in foreign land.
He further said, "The Catholic community is lucky as there is constant encouragement given to the students and the people at large in every way by Fudar Pratishthan, the church and other organizations."
He quoted union minister Veerappa Moily and said that 175 years back the US had 72 percent youth population, the way India has presently.
"During those years, in the US, rapid development and progress took place due to the dominence of youth power. Hence, even the youth of our country should excel and work towards India's progress,"
