Mangalore, Feb 26: 'Fudar Pratishthan', a trust working for the betterment of Canara Catholics, organized 'Fudar Pratishthan Puraskar-2012', a felicitation programme at Milagres Jubilee Hall here on Sunday, February 26.

Dr Henry D'Souza, Bishop of Bellary, after lighting the lamp, said that the youth should strive to bring about a change in the society. "The life of Jesus should inspire the young minds to do good to the people. It is important to inculcate values of life as in academics. Sacrifice is all that works for bringing that change in the society. Let the youth build a new society," he added.

Arun Furtado, KAS, district social welfare minister spoke on the occasion. He advised the students to opt more for government jobs rather than in the private sector. He insisted that the former gives more status to individual in the society, financial freedom and better incentives than the latter. He also said that its better to work and serve our own people rather than look for jobs in foreign land.

He further said, "The Catholic community is lucky as there is constant encouragement given to the students and the people at large in every way by Fudar Pratishthan, the church and other organizations."

He quoted union minister Veerappa Moily and said that 175 years back the US had 72 percent youth population, the way India has presently.

"During those years, in the US, rapid development and progress took place due to the dominence of youth power. Hence, even the youth of our country should excel and work towards India's progress,"

He also said that though in the country and in the state, the Christian community is a minority and has less population, the achievement of Catholics is big in number.

"Make the maximum use of your young age, and utilize all the opportunities that come your way," he told the students.

Frank Fernandes, managing director of Mosaco Shipping and Forwarding Dubai also spoke on the occasion. He asked the parents and guardians to encourage their children in their young age and shape them into reposnsible citizens. He also congratulated the top scorers and the rank holders present on the occasion.

Canara Catholic students were recognized during the programme for their achievements in academics and sports as well. As many as 135 students who did well in SSLC, PUC, graduation and, post graduation level were awarded with cash prize, certificate and a medal.

Roshan Ferrao for his achievement in the field of body building in the inter national levels, Pramila Pinto, Royston Pinto and Anil Mendonca, the students of Special School and the winners of Gold medal in the Olympics that was held in Athens too were awarded during the programme.

John D'Silva, president of the Fudar Pratishthan and L J Fernandes were among the dignitaries in the dais. Fr Walter D'Mello, parish priest of Milagres church welcomed everyone.

To the best of my information, no efforts were spared to reach communication to all.
Information was sent to all the Parish Priests, Catholic Sabha Presidents of all Parish/Varado/Pranthya/Central Units of Catholic Sabha, besides repeated notices on Raknno and extension of deadline.
List of candidates received even after deadline

Mr.Thomas DMello, Kundapura. As per you, "all the Catholic Sabha Presidents, all the Parish priests were sent information.".

Catholic Saba is the priest property?
What about Parish Council President/Vice President. How long the parisher's has to depend on parish priest. Where is the self identity of the congregation. Wake up Thomas.

My dependency with the Parish priest has cut off last 20 yrs and after that myself and my family grew. Thomas stop this crap.

Sir, I beg to defer. This was a well publicized program. All the Catholic Sabha Presidents, all the Parish priests were sent information and to send names of suitable candidates with forms of registration. It was done well in advance to give sufficient time for registration. It is unfortunate that the information in some areas is NOT decimated properly.

If the respective Parish has failed to do so, Phudar Prathistan or Catholic Sabha should not be blamed for it.
