Manchester, Jan 23: Manchester United midfielder Casemiro will part ways with the Premier League club at the end of the current season following the expiry of his contract, the club confirmed on Thursday.
Although the 33-year-old Brazilian had a one-year extension option in his contract, United have decided not to activate it as part of their long-term squad overhaul plans, a club source said. The decision was taken well in advance, and Casemiro had requested the club to formally confirm his departure at this stage.

“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life,” Casemiro said in an emotional message. “From the first day I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters of this special club.”
Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in August 2022 for a reported fee of around £60 million. A five-time Champions League winner, he quickly became the backbone of United’s midfield, making 146 appearances and scoring 21 goals.
He played a crucial role in United’s success in recent years, notably scoring in the 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the 2023 League Cup final and being part of the squad that lifted the FA Cup in 2024.
“It’s not time to say goodbye yet; there are many more memories to create during the next four months,” Casemiro said. “We still have a lot to fight for together, and my full focus will remain on giving everything to help this club succeed.”
United are currently placed fifth in the Premier League table, 15 points behind leaders Arsenal, whom they face at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The team is coming off a morale-boosting 2-0 derby win over Manchester City, marking an impressive start under caretaker manager Michael Carrick following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.
Casemiro also shared a heartfelt video montage of his time at the club on social media, writing: “I have decided that these will be my last four months at Old Trafford. Eternally grateful. Forever a Red Devil.”
