New Delhi, Jan 24: President Droupadi Murmu will speak to the nation on Sunday evening, continuing the long-standing tradition of a presidential address on the eve of Republic Day, which will be celebrated across the country on Monday.

The address, a key moment in India’s democratic calendar, will be delivered at 7 p.m. and broadcast live nationwide. It will air across the full network of Akashvani (All India Radio) and be telecast on Doordarshan’s television channels, ensuring wide public access.

As per convention, the President’s message will first be delivered in Hindi, followed by the English version. To reach audiences across India’s diverse linguistic landscape, Doordarshan’s regional channels will subsequently air the address in various regional languages. Akashvani will also begin regional language broadcasts from 9:30 p.m. onwards on its respective regional stations.

The Republic Day eve address is a tradition dating back to the early years of independent India. It offers an opportunity for the President to reflect on the nation’s progress, acknowledge achievements, address challenges, and reaffirm the constitutional values that bind the country together.

Republic Day, observed on January 26, commemorates the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1950, marking the birth of India as a sovereign democratic republic. Delivered just hours before the ceremonial parade and nationwide celebrations, the President’s speech is regarded as one of the most significant annual messages to the nation.

With coordinated broadcasts in Hindi, English, and multiple regional languages, the government aims to ensure that President Murmu’s address reaches citizens in every part of the country.
