New Delhi, Jan 26: Even months after the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced the Civil Services Examination 2024 results, the journey of Ruchika Jha continues to resonate strongly with civil services aspirants across the country.
Ruchika, a native of Bihar and former copy editor with national news agency PTI, secured All India Rank 51 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024, emerging as one of the notable achievers of the batch. Her transition from journalism to the civil services is being widely seen as an example of career reinvention driven by perseverance and purpose.

Currently based in Delhi, Ruchika comes from an academic background. Her father is a chemistry teacher, while her mother is a homemaker. She completed her schooling in Delhi, consistently performing well in academics.
After school, she pursued a BTech degree in electronics engineering from a Delhi University-affiliated college. However, her professional journey took a different turn when she chose journalism, enrolling at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), where she completed a diploma in journalism before joining PTI as a copy editor.
In 2022, Ruchika stepped away from the newsroom and took up a role as a soft skills trainer with an educational company. It was during this phase that she decided to prepare for the civil services examination, committing herself fully to the demanding process.
In the Civil Services Examination 2024, Ruchika scored 999 marks to secure All India Rank 51, a rank that places her in contention for an IAS cadre. Her story continues to inspire aspirants preparing for the examination today, particularly working professionals and journalists who aspire to transition into public service.
Ruchika Jha’s journey underscores the message that disciplined preparation, even after a career shift, can lead to success in one of the country’s most competitive examinations.
