Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Feb 27: The post of the city mayor this year has been earmarked for woman candidate belonging to backward classes, and that of the deputy mayor, for woman candidate from scheduled caste. Immediately after the government made this announcement, BJP has started its exercise to finalize the candidates for these posts.

It is learnt that the city corporation is yet to get the reservation decision officially, But, a gazette notification has been issued.

The present mayor and deputy mayor will cease to be so at the end of this month. For the present term of the city corporation, the coming mayor will the last one, and city corporation election will be held next year. Although BJP has several candidates who fit the bill for mayor’s post, it is treading carefully, as the last mayor’s image and performance can have a telling effect on the outcome of next year’s election.

As the BJP has only one corporator who is eligible for the post of the deputy mayor, in all likelihood, its corporator, Amitakala, will get this post. For the post of city mayor, Roopa, Shanta, Sarojini and Surekha are aspirants.

City corporation commissioner, Dr Harish Kumar, said he will hold discussions with the divisional commissioner, discuss date for the special session of the council, and then hold the election as per rules.

Amitakala, Roopa, Shanta, Sarojini and Surekha - Are these shortlisted for any tulu movie coming up, like the one we had in state parliament house few days back?? A kind request to BJP to a responsible candidate for the position. They should be literates to handle the local issues at least. Reservation to backward caste or minority will not give chance to the right person rather it will lead to corruption in the society. Species who get ed this way typically will not know the value of governing and hence will end up creating all sort of sleaze against the populace. The opportunity they get will be utilized for the maximum possible dwindle rather than development. This can be proved from so many instances so far. People, who earn the responsible position due to their capacity and hard work to the nation, play a responsible role in the society. You can recall the days of Dr. V.S.Acharya, whose service is remarkable. Also, there should be some sort of norms to candidates based on their Academics, Profession and Experience, so that they will know the head/tail of ruling.

Wonderful! Indian politics never ceases to amaze me.You know the mayoral and deputy-mayoral positions are for show and that they are meant to be ineffectual puppets, when candidates are nominated respectively on the basis of their caste and gender, rather than traits that actually matter.

Why not we make appointment based on merits and eligibility. Everything on Reservation, wrong people in all the government positions, god know what will happen if there will be reservation in private sector. Literally bullshit. Those idiots don’t know what they are supposed to do, simply waste of our money. Amirtkala being corporatar in derebail area she don’t know what is happening in her area forget about work. What a joke to hear she is the contestant for dy.mayor .. Reservation is root cause for underdevelopment & our bloody politicians stick to this for vote bank. Ambedkar has done this for the situation then and now all are suffering.

Absolutely no problem to field reserved women candidate, but at least they should be qualified enough to take care of Mayor’s duties and responsibilities. Time and again, Women proved more sincere than men at work but this “Mayoramma” should devote more time at office rather than spending time for motherhood
