New Delhi, Jan 29: In a tragic incident, a 27-year-old Delhi Police constable, posted as a commando in the SWAT unit of the Special Cell, passed away on Tuesday at a private hospital in Ghaziabad, five days after her husband allegedly assaulted her at their home in Dwarka Mor, southwest Delhi.
The victim, identified as Kajal, suffered severe head injuries when her husband, 28-year-old Ankur Chaudhary, reportedly attacked her with a metal dumbbell and smashed her head against a door frame following a domestic dispute and alleged dowry demands. Chaudhary then allegedly called Kajal’s brother, Nikhil, also a Delhi Police constable, claiming he had killed her.

Kajal was initially admitted to a private hospital near Dwarka on January 22 and was later shifted to a hospital in Nehru Nagar, Ghaziabad, on January 25. She succumbed to her injuries around 6 am on January 27.
“The case, initially registered as an attempt to murder, has now been converted to murder. The accused is in judicial custody,” said Madhup Tiwari, Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order, Zone-2).
Originally from Ganaur in Haryana, Kajal joined the Delhi Police in 2022 and was trained as a commando before her posting in the SWAT unit. She married Chaudhary in November 2023 after a four-year courtship. The couple had a one-and-a-half-year-old son, who was with his maternal grandparents at the time of the incident.
According to Nikhil, Chaudhary had allegedly harassed Kajal for dowry in the form of money and a car. The family recounted that Chaudhary had made threats over the phone on January 10, moments before the attack, before admitting her to the hospital where she was declared brain dead.
The incident has sparked widespread grief and condemnation, highlighting concerns over domestic violence and dowry harassment, even among government employees.
