Bijapur, Jan 29: An encounter broke out on Thursday between security personnel and Naxalites in the forests of Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, a police official confirmed.

The incident occurred in the morning when a team from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was conducting an anti-Naxalite operation after receiving intelligence about the presence of armed cadres in the area.

An intermittent gunfight is reported to be ongoing, with further details yet to emerge. Security forces are continuing their operation in the dense forest region.
