Mangalore: Renovated Founder's Branch of MCC Bank Inaugurated

Mangalore, Feb 27: The newly-renovated, air-conditioned founder's branch of Mangalore Catholic Co-operative Bank at Hampankatta here was inaugurated on Monday February 27.
 
John Richard Lobo, executive director, Pilikula Nisargadhama, inaugurated the renovated branch. Fr Walter D'Mello, parish priest, Milagres church led the prayer service.

Later, in his presidential address at the formal programme organized on the occasion, MCC Bank chairman Melvyn D'Cunha said that as the Bank’s centenary celebration is culminating in this May, efforts are on to expand the operation of this bank statewide. The deposit has crossed a hefty amount of Rs 207 crore, and core banking service will be extended to all 16 branches within a year's time, he said.
 
John D'Silva, veteran of the co-operative movement in Mumbai and president of Maharashtra Konkani Bhasha Mandal, said that though the people of Catholic community enjoyed good status in many institutions during the pre-independence period, lethargic attitude of later generations dampened their spirit. Hence, there are less number of people from the Catholic community in fields like politics, higher education, banking and others. "Perhaps there is a need for religious heads and the clergy to focus on this matter," he said.
 
J R Lobo said that all the branches of the Bank extend good service and that co-operation of the public in strengthening the Bank is of utmost important.
 
Dr Edward Nazareth, vice-chairman of the bank, Francis Cutinha, Joseph Quadras, Michael D'Souza among others were present.
