Mangaluru: Accidental fire razes house in Kuthar, loss estimated at Rs 40 lac

Mangaluru, Feb 1: A house was completely gutted in an accidental fire at Mulihitlu near Kuthar in Munnuru village on January 31 evening, causing an estimated loss of around Rs 40 lac.

The house belonged to Sharada Babu Poojary. Household articles, important documents and gold ornaments kept inside the house were completely destroyed in the blaze. The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. Police have registered a case in this connection.

The house owner Sharada Poojary, who is unwell, escaped as she was staying at her daughter’s house at Polali for treatment. She had earlier suffered injuries in an accident and is unable to walk.

Her two sons work as a painter and a carpenter respectively and had locked the house and gone for work at the time of the incident. On receiving information about the fire in the evening, they rushed home only to find the house reduced to ashes. Carpenter Vasanth’s tools and equipment were also completely destroyed in the fire.

With the house gutted, the family has been left with nothing except the clothes they were wearing at the time, plunging them into distress.
