Udupi, Feb 2: A 41-year-old man, who was reportedly under mental distress for the past six months, has gone missing from Padubidri, prompting his younger brother to lodge a complaint at the Padubidri police station.

The missing man has been identified as Guddenegowda Halanegowda Halegowda, a native of Hirehullala in Tumarikoppa village of Haveri district. He had been working as a daily wage labourer in and around Padubidri.

According to the complaint, Guddenegowda was recently staying at Uchila, where he was reportedly behaving abnormally and speaking incoherently at the house of one Gopinath. Concerned about his condition, Gopinath contacted Guddenegowda’s brother over the phone and made arrangements for him to return to his native place. Guddenegowda was reportedly put on a bus on January 30.

However, Guddenegowda neither reached his native village nor visited his aunt’s house in Udupi, and failed to return to Padubidri. His family members later realised that he was untraceable, and his mobile phone was found to be switched off.

Padubidri police have registered a case based on the complaint and are investigating the matter.
