London, Feb 3: Liverpool have reached an agreement with Stade Rennais for the transfer of highly rated French defender Jeremy Jacquet, with the 20-year-old set to join the Premier League club ahead of the 2026–27 season, subject to work permit and international clearance.
According to the club, Liverpool will pay a guaranteed £55 million for the centre-back, with a further £5 million in performance-based add-ons potentially taking the deal’s value to £60 million.
In an official statement, Liverpool confirmed that Jacquet will remain with Rennes for the remainder of the current Ligue 1 campaign before completing his move to Anfield in the summer, where he will sign a long-term contract.
The Reds moved swiftly to secure the defender after entering the race late in the January transfer window, beating competition from Chelsea, who had been closely monitoring Jacquet’s progress.
Jacquet, a France Under-21 international with five caps, has been a regular presence for Rennes this season, making 18 league appearances so far. Since making his senior debut in January 2024, he has featured 31 times for the Ligue 1 side. He also gained top-flight experience during a loan spell at Clermont Foot.
At the international youth level, Jacquet played a key role in France’s run to the final of the 2024 UEFA European Under-19 Championship and was named in the Team of the Tournament, further boosting his reputation as one of Europe’s most promising young defenders.
In a separate development, Liverpool confirmed that goalkeeper Harvey Davies has returned to the club following the conclusion of his loan spell at Crawley Town. Davies signed a new contract with the Reds before heading out on loan earlier this season.
The 21-year-old made 19 appearances in all competitions for the League Two side during the first half of the campaign. He previously spent the 2023–24 season on loan at Crewe Alexandra, where he featured 32 times.
Davies, who joined Liverpool’s academy at Under-9 level, has steadily progressed through the ranks and has been included in the senior squad’s matchday line-up on 18 occasions so far.
