“The NHAI officials have been telling lies and giving wrong information every time. Hence we have lost faith on what they say or claim. Hence, they should come out with a clear date by which they will be able to complete the task,” Nalin said. The officials then responded by setting for themselves the deadline of March 31.
The MP also took strong objection to the frequent absence of project director of NHAI, Prashant Gavasane, from such meetings. He severely reprimanded Gavasane for the failure of NHAI in laying service roads at Kodikal, Mulky and some other places as prescribed while widening the national highway, and said that the officer seems to be taking the people of the district for a ride because of their soft nature and patience.
The NHAI officials present at the meeting gave details about the tenders floated for various works including bridges, and informed that road repair works are being undertaken at Shardi Ghat stretch of national highway out of five crore rupees grant sanctioned by the state government. Nalin said he would verify the progress of works at Shiradi Ghat on Tuesday.
When one of the officials observed that Mangalore Special Economic Zone, which has occupied a zilla panchayat road, has been promising to lay a fresh road since the last 18 months without any result, the MP questioned as to whether MSEZ is governed by any special rules or status. He instructed that the road concerned should be laid by MSEZ within a month from now.
Zilla panchayat chief executive officer, Dr K N Vijay Prakash, was present at the meeting.
