According to the police press release, the complainant Ayesha stated that her husband Abdul Samad, who works as an auto-rickshaw driver, left their house at Pottalike, Sartabail, Kodi in Manjanady village on February 2 at around 12.30 pm to go on a hire. As there was a Barakat festival at home that evening, he was expected to return by 6.00 pm, but he did not come back.

At around 6.30 pm, the complainant called Abdul Samad and informed him to return home, to which he replied that he would reach within five minutes. However, he did not return, and when the complainant tried calling him again at around 7.15 pm, his mobile phone number was switched off.
The complainant searched for her husband at various places but could not trace him. She also stated that Abdul Samad had earlier left home about five years ago and returned after five days. She further mentioned that enquiries were made with other auto drivers, relatives, and at various places, which resulted in a delay in lodging the complaint.
