Kasargod: UDF launches state-level ‘Hosa Yuga’ yatra from Kumbala targeting LDF govt

Kasargod, Feb 6: The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) on Friday evening launched its state-level ‘Hosa Yuga’ yatra from Kumbala under the leadership of Kerala leader of opposition V D Satheesan. The yatra was flagged off by AICC national secretary K C Venugopal.

Handing over the flags of UDF constituent parties to Satheesan, Venugopal said the countdown for the end of the LDF government had begun and asserted that the UDF would return to power in the next elections. He alleged that people were reeling under corruption, looting, and price rise, while unemployment had pushed citizens to the brink, forcing many onto the streets.

Claiming that a government boasting of 10 years of governance must answer why Kerala’s youth are being forced to migrate from the state, Venugopal alleged that Kerala had been pushed backward in every sector. He accused the LDF government of draining the state treasury and said only a few days remained for people to uproot what he termed a “failed administration”.

Taking on the central government, Venugopal alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who speaks of “56-inch chest”, was afraid to speak or debate in Parliament. He said the Union budget had insulted Kerala and its people. “We are not asking for alms. What the Centre should give Kerala is not charity. We are demanding our rightful share, and if it is denied, a government capable of securing it will come to power in Kerala,” he said.

AICC Kerala in-charge Deepa Das Munshi, senior leaders Ramesh Chennithala, K Muraleedharan, P K Kunhalikutty, P J Joseph, Kodikunnil Suresh, C P John, Shibu Baby John, N K Premachandran, K Sudhakaran, along with MPs, MLAs, and UDF leaders were present.

UDF convener Adoor Prakash welcomed the gathering, while KPCC president Sunny Joseph presided over the programme.

The ‘Hosa Yuga’ yatra, which began from Kumbala, was accorded a reception at Kasargod at 7 pm on Friday. On Saturday, the yatra will be received at Uduma at 10 am, Kanhangad at 11 am, and Trikaripur at noon.

The yatra will pass through all assembly constituencies in the state and conclude at Thiruvananthapuram on March 6.
