Udupi, Feb 8: An entrepreneur lost his life in a road accident after a two-wheeler rammed into a three-wheeled electric wheelchair vehicle near Puttur in Udupi taluk.
The deceased has been identified as Madhvamurthy Acharya (61), a resident of Puttur.
The incident occurred on the national highway passing in front of Sri Omkareshwara Bhajana Mandira at Puttur village. Police said the accused, Sriharirao, who was riding a two-wheeler from Udupi towards Santhekatte at high speed, allegedly crashed into the three-wheeler travelling ahead of him.

Due to the impact, Madhvamurthy Acharya was thrown onto the road along with the vehicle and sustained serious injuries to the head and other parts of the body. He was rushed to a private hospital in Udupi for treatment but succumbed to his injuries. The two-wheeler rider, Sriharirao, also sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
A case has been registered at the traffic police station and further investigation is under way.
Madhvamurthy Acharya had suffered a spinal cord injury at the age of 18 and had been leading a successful life from a wheelchair for the past 43 years. He had established Dhanalakshmi Rice Mill and made it one of the most well-known commercial rice mills in the district. He was also known for encouraging and extending financial support to several spinal cord injury survivors who came into contact with him.
He is survived by his mother, brother and sister.
