Mangalore, Feb 28: The debut book by city-based businessman Ramanath Kotekar, 'Billawaru Mattu Basel Mission - Ondu Adhyayana’ (Billawas and Basel Mission - A Study) was released at a seminar on 'Suffering Children' organized jointly by Karnataka Theological College and Mangalore Diocesan chair in Christianity on February 28.
Quoting examples from his book, the author said that despite having worked on the book for 10 long years, the question as to what might have had made so many Billawas (some of whom had better social standing and land holding too) embrace Protestantism is a mystery. "The book speaks of the various activities of the Basel Missionaries," he added.
Dr Reinhold Mokrosch of Germany chaired the seminar. He spoke on 'suffering children’ citing theological examples and from the Bible. "Suffering leads to education. Going through trials lead us to new opportunities in life," he said.
Dr C L Furtado, former bishop of CSL-KSD presided over the function. Dr Honey Cabral and Dr J B Saldanha were present on the dais.
Kotekar's second book titled 'Study on Billawas' will be out in March or April.
