Mangaluru: Srinivas University organises a guest lecture titled ‘POSH Act – Know Your Rights’

Mangaluru, Feb 11: The Institute of Aviation Studies, Srinivas University, conducted a guest lecture on February 9 at the Aviation Campus, Hampankatta, on the topic ‘POSH Act – Know Your Rights.’ The programme was held with the aim to create awareness among students about workplace safety, dignity, and respectful behaviour in professional environments.

The awareness programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from second and final year students of BBA Aviation and Logistics Management. The event was successfully conducted with the constant support and guidance of Dr Pavithra Kumari, dean; Roshin K Sibi, head of the department; and Varshitha, guest lecture coordinator, along with the cooperation and coordination of faculty members and staff of the Institute of Aviation Studies.

The session was led by distinguished resource person Dr Devi Prabha Alva, who provided valuable insights into the sexual harassment of women at Workplace Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal Act, 2013. She explained the significance of the POSH Act in academic and professional settings and highlighted the importance of ethical conduct and mutual respect.

Dr Devi Prabha Alva discussed key provisions of the Act, including the meaning and forms of sexual harassment, rights and responsibilities of employees and employers, the role of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), and the complaint redressal mechanism.

Practical examples helped students understand how the act is applied in real workplace situations. The session enhanced their awareness of legal rights and professional behaviour. Overall, the guest lecture was informative and effective in promoting awareness about workplace safety and dignity.
