QpiAI, Alliance University unveil nation's first public-access 8-qubit computer in Bengaluru

Media Release

Bengaluru, Feb 13: In a development that could redefine India's position in the global quantum race, QpiAI and Alliance University on Friday unveiled plans for the nation's first commercially accessible quantum computing experience centre, thus bringing cutting-edge 8-qubit superconducting technology within reach of researchers, entrepreneurs, and enterprises for the first time.

The QUASAR (Quantum AI School of Advanced Research), which is positioned as India’s first Quantum Computing Experience Centre, is set to launch at Alliance University's Electronic City campus in the coming months.

The Centre represents a watershed moment for India's quantum ambitions. Unlike lab-restricted systems elsewhere, this facility will offer hands-on access to indigenous quantum computing hardware a critical step toward technological sovereignty in an era where quantum supremacy could determine economic and security dominance.

Why this matters now

The timing couldn't be more strategic. As global powers pour billions into quantum computing—with the potential to crack current encryption, revolutionise drug discovery, and solve optimisation problems beyond classical computing capabilities. India has often watched from the sidelines. The QUASAR Centre changes that equation by placing actual quantum hardware in the epicentre of India's startup ecosystem, where Electronic City hosts over 200 multinational technology companies and thousands of emerging ventures.

'"This isn't just about installing a machine; it's about igniting a quantum revolution in Indian innovation,' declared Dr Nagendra Nagaraja, founder and CEO of QpiAI. 'We're creating what will become India's reference site for quantum computing, where a college student, a defence researcher, and a Fortune 500 data scientist can all access the same sovereign quantum technology.'

Indigenous technology meets academic excellence

At the heart of the partnership lies QpiAI's QVidya 8-qubit superconducting quantum system, a fully indigenous platform that sidesteps foreign dependency in this strategic technology sector. Paired with the QpiAI Explorer software platform, the system transforms quantum computing from an esoteric research curiosity into a practical tool for solving real-world problems in optimisation, cryptography, and artificial intelligence.

Alliance University's specialised facility provides the sophisticated infrastructure required for quantum systems: ultra-low temperature environments, electromagnetic shielding, and precision control systems.

The university's strategic location in Electronic City positions the centre as a natural bridge between academia, industry, and government—particularly critical for India's defence and aerospace public sector undertakings concentrated in Bengaluru.

Abhay G Chebbi, pro chancellor of Alliance University, framed the initiative in broader terms: 'We're not building an academic lab—we're creating India's premier quantum showcase environment. This facility will generate sustainable commercial value through certification programmes, research partnerships, and Quantum Computing as a Service (QCaaS) offerings while democratizing access to technology that could define the next century.'

A strategic play for National Quantum Mission

The QUASAR Centre directly advances objectives of India's National Quantum Mission, which aims to position the country as a quantum technology leader by 2030. By offering hands-on training, industry certifications, and research collaboration opportunities, the facility addresses the critical talent gap that has hampered quantum adoption in emerging economies.

For India's 8,000+ startup ecosystem, the center provides something previously unattainable: actual quantum computing resources without million-dollar capital investments. For established enterprises and government agencies, it offers a proving ground for quantum algorithms and applications before committing to full-scale deployment.
